Ingredients

  • 1 (2 liter) bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  •  1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced
  • 4 turkey legs
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning

Instructions

  • Start by choosing fresh, high-quality turkey legs. Look for legs that are plump, with smooth skin and no signs of discoloration. Quality meat ensures a more enjoyable eating experience.
  • Prepare a marinade to infuse the turkey legs with flavor. Combine a mix of your favorite herbs, spices, and liquids like olive oil, soy sauce, citrus juices, and minced garlic. This marinade will not only enhance the taste but also tenderize the meat.
  • Place the turkey legs in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the legs, ensuring they are fully coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or ideally overnight, to let the flavors penetrate the meat.
  • Clean your grill thoroughly and preheat it to medium-high heat. If you're using a charcoal grill, wait until the coals are ashed over and spread evenly. For a gas grill, preheat with all burners on.
  • or optimal grilling, create both direct and indirect heat zones. On a charcoal grill, arrange the coals on one side for direct heat and leave the other side with no coals for indirect heat. On a gas grill, turn off one or more burners for indirect heat.
  • Take the turkey legs out of the marinade and shake off any excess. This prevents flare-ups on the grill and ensures the meat cooks evenly without excessive charring.
  • Place the turkey legs on the grill over the indirect heat zone. Cover the grill and cook the legs for about 20-30 minutes, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
  • Remove the turkey legs from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute within the meat, resulting in a more succulent texture. Serve the grilled turkey legs with your favorite side dishes and enjoy the delectable flavors you've created.
