Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cups cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cookie Dough

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.

Step 2: Chill the Dough

  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to prevent spreading.

Step 3: Bake the Cookies

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Scoop dough into balls (about 1 ½ tablespoons each) and place them on the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
  • Let cookies cool completely before frosting.

Step 4: Make the Frosting

  • In a mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing until combined.
  • Add vanilla and milk, beating until smooth and fluffy. Adjust milk for desired consistency.

Step 5: Frost the Cookies

  • Spread or pipe frosting onto cooled cookies.
  • Let frosting set before serving.

Notes

  • For extra softness: Slightly underbake the cookies and let them cool on the baking sheet.
  • For richer flavor: Use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for a deeper chocolate taste.
  • For a thicker frosting: Add more powdered sugar; for a thinner one, add more milk.
