Cuisine American
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- 1 medium onion, very finely chopped
- 8–10 soft dinner rolls or slider buns
- 8–10 dill pickle slices
- 4 slices American cheese (optional)
- Black pepper, to taste
Spread the ground beef onto a sheet of parchment paper. Press it thinly into a large rectangle (about ¼-inch thick). Score into small squares (slider size). Using a skewer, poke five small holes in each square to mimic the traditional style.
Spread finely chopped onions evenly across a large skillet. Place the beef squares directly on top of the onions. Season with salt and pepper.
Cover with a lid and cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes. The steam from the onions will cook the beef thoroughly.
Place the cooked patties (with onions attached) onto soft buns. Add cheese if desired and top with a pickle slice. Cover with the top bun and serve warm.
- Use high-fat ground beef for juicier sliders.
- Chop onions extremely fine for proper steaming.
- Do not flip the patties during cooking.
- The holes in the patty help even cooking.
- Soft buns are essential for authenticity.
- Avoid overcooking to keep them tender.
- American cheese melts best for this recipe.
- Serve immediately for best texture.
