Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups cubed day-old bread (French bread or brioche works best)
  • 2 large apples, peeled and diced
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk or half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, both sugars, spices, vanilla, melted butter, and salt.
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and apples.
  • Gently press bread down to absorb liquid fully.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and set in the center.
  • Serve warm with caramel, ice cream, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use stale bread for better texture.
  • Replace milk with coconut milk for dairy-free option.
  • Add raisins, nuts, or cranberries for extra flavor.
  • Brioche or challah bread gives the richest taste.
