- 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup melted butter
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread them evenly in the dish.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a spoon inserted comes out clean.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
- Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best texture.
- Add chopped nuts or raisins for extra flavor.
- The batter will be slightly thick—spread it gently over the apples.
- For deeper flavor, drizzle caramel sauce before serving.
- Tastes even better the next day when reheated.
