Authentic Algerian Dersa Recipe

Dersa is a traditional Algerian spice paste made with chili, garlic, and spices, perfect for marinating or seasoning dishes.

- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 dried red chili peppers (or fresh chilies)
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp black pepper
Soak the dried chili peppers in warm water for 5 minutes to soften them.
In a mortar and pestle (or food processor), grind the garlic and chili peppers into a paste.
Add cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, and continue grinding.
Slowly drizzle in olive oil and mix until a smooth paste forms.
Stir in the lemon juice and mix well.
Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
