Authentic Mexican Coffee

A warm, spiced Mexican coffee sweetened with piloncillo and infused with cinnamon.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cups ground coffee
  • 1 small piloncillo cone (or 1/2 cup brown sugar)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream or milk (optional, for serving)

Instructions
 

  • Boil water and spices: In a saucepan or traditional clay pot, bring water, cinnamon stick, and cloves (if using) to a boil.
  • Dissolve piloncillo: Add the piloncillo and stir until fully dissolved.
  • Add coffee: Stir in the ground coffee, reduce heat, and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Strain and serve: Remove from heat and strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into cups.
  • Optional toppings: Add a splash of milk or top with whipped cream for extra richness.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a splash of tequila or KahlĂșa.
  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing piloncillo or sugar.
