Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds (soaked and peeled) or almond butter
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon agave syrup or maple syrup for sweetness

Instructions

Prepare the Almonds (if using raw):

  • Soak raw almonds in water for 2-4 hours to soften. Drain, peel, and set aside. Alternatively, use almond butter for convenience.

Blend the Ingredients:

  • In a high-speed blender or food processor, combine almonds (or almond butter), olive oil, water, lemon juice, tamari, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt.

Blend Until Smooth:

  • Blend the mixture on high until smooth and creamy. Add more water, one tablespoon at a time, to achieve your desired consistency.

Adjust the Flavor:

  • Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more lemon juice for tang, cayenne for spice, or a touch of sweetener if needed.

Serve and Store:

  • Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl and use immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, reduce the cayenne and smoked paprika.
  • You can substitute cashews for almonds if preferred.
