  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Spiced Maple Syrup Dip

  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Pat the sausage links dry with paper towels and insert wooden skewers into each sausage.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients to form a thick batter.
  • Pour the batter into a tall drinking glass for easier dipping.

  • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • For the dip, gently warm the maple syrup in a small saucepan and stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, and salt.
  • Serve the hot breakfast corn dogs immediately with the warm spiced maple syrup dip.

Notes

  • Dry the sausages well so the batter sticks evenly.
  • The batter should be thick enough to coat the sausage without dripping
  • excessively.
  • Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for even cooking.
  • Pure maple syrup provides the richest flavor.
  • Warm the syrup gently to preserve its natural taste.
  • Serve immediately for the crispiest texture.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in an oven or air fryer.
