For the Dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
For Brushing
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon milk
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into small equal portions. Arrange the dough balls in a snowflake pattern on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving slight space between pieces.
Cover loosely and allow the dough to rise again for 30 minutes.
Mix egg yolk and milk. Brush over the dough.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
Brush immediately with melted butter while still warm.
Serve warm and allow guests to pull apart individual rolls.
