Ingredients
  

  • 1 large head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork (optional)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • In a skillet, cook beef, pork, onion, and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, rice, and seasonings. Simmer 5 minutes.
  • Spread half of the chopped cabbage in the baking dish. Layer with half the meat mixture. Repeat layers.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, top with cheese, and bake 15 minutes until melted.
  • Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Fresh herbs like parsley boost flavour.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate overnight for convenience.
  • Leftovers reheat beautifully.
