  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the Balsamic Reduction

  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional

Instructions

Prepare the Balsamic Reduction

  • Pour balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan.Bring it to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.Cook for approximately 8–10 minutes.
Stir occasionally while the vinegar thickens.Add honey if you prefer a slightly sweeter glaze.Remove it from the heat and let it cool.

Prepare the Tomatoes

  • Wash and dry the tomatoes thoroughly.Slice them into approximately ¼-inch thick rounds.Use a sharp knife to create clean slices.

Prepare the Mozzarella

  • Drain the fresh mozzarella well.Slice it into rounds similar in thickness to the tomatoes.

Arrange the Salad

  • Arrange tomato and mozzarella slices alternately on a serving platter.Tuck fresh basil leaves between the slices.
Continue arranging until all ingredients are evenly distributed

Add the Seasoning

  • Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil over the salad.Sprinkle sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over everything.

Add the Balsamic Reduction

  • Drizzle the cooled balsamic reduction across the salad.Avoid adding too much because the glaze has concentrated flavor.
Serve immediately for the freshest texture.

Notes

  • Use ripe tomatoes for naturally sweet flavor.
  • Fresh mozzarella provides the best creamy texture.
  • Buffalo mozzarella makes an excellent premium variation.
  • Use fresh basil instead of dried basil.
  • High-quality olive oil makes a noticeable difference.
  • Cool the balsamic reduction before serving.
  • Add the glaze shortly before serving.
  • Season gently because mozzarella has a mild flavor.
