Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup caramel candies (about 20-25 pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in 30-second increments until completely melted. Stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, and stir until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until the brownie batter is well combined.
  • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream or milk. Microwave in 20-30 second intervals, stirring between each, until the caramel is melted and smooth.
  • Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the brownie layer in the pan.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter on top of the caramel layer and gently swirl the two layers together with a knife or a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (but not wet batter).
  • Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan. Place them on a cutting board and cut into squares or rectangles.
  • Serve and enjoy your delicious caramel brownies.
