Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow or white cake mix
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened and cubed
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Layer pie filling: Pour the cherry pie filling evenly into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Add cream cheese: Drop cubed cream cheese evenly over the pie filling. Optionally, sprinkle with sugar and vanilla for extra sweetness.
  • Sprinkle cake mix: Evenly distribute the dry cake mix over the top—do not stir.
  • Add melted butter: Drizzle the melted butter evenly across the top of the cake mix.
  • Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Cool & serve: Let cool for 15–20 minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not mix the layers; layering is key for the "dump cake" texture.
  • Cream cheese can be softened slightly in the microwave for easier spreading.
  • Use cherry-pineapple or strawberry filling for fun flavor variations.
