Cuisine American
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- 2 tbsp banana liqueur (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Melt the butter: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until combined.
Add the bananas: Place sliced bananas into the caramel sauce, cooking for 1-2 minutes until softened.
Flambé with rum: Remove the skillet from heat, add the rum, and carefully ignite with a long lighter. Allow the flames to burn off.
Finish the sauce: Stir in the banana liqueur (if using) and vanilla extract. Let cook for another minute.
Serve immediately: Spoon the bananas and sauce over scoops of vanilla ice cream. Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
-
Always use caution when flambéing—keep a lid nearby to smother flames if necessary.
-
For a non-alcoholic version, replace rum with apple juice or water.
