Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Custard Filling

  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • Beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Heat milk and butter until warm; slowly mix into egg mixture.
  • Fold in dry ingredients and vanilla.
  • Bake until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • Slowly combine and cook until thick; stir in vanilla and cool.
  • Heat cream, pour over chocolate and butter, stir until smooth, then glaze the cake.

Notes

  • Allow custard to cool before assembling.
  • Use room-temperature eggs for better texture.
  • Do not overcook the custard.
  • Chill briefly before slicing for clean cuts.
  • Best enjoyed within 24 hours.
