- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
Peel, core, and halve the apples.
In an oven-safe skillet, melt sugar over medium heat until it turns golden caramel.
Add butter and stir gently until combined.
Arrange apples tightly in the caramel, cut-side up, and cook for 8–10 minutes.
Remove from heat, sprinkle vanilla and optional spices.
Cover apples with puff pastry, tucking edges inside.
Bake for 30–35 minutes until pastry is golden.
Let rest for 5 minutes, then carefully invert onto a plate.
