- 1.5–2 kg pork shoulder or pork butt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (plus extra for serving)
- ½ cup chicken broth or water
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (optional)
Pat the pork dry and rub with olive oil.
Mix paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, pepper, and salt. Rub evenly over the pork.
Place pork in a slow cooker and add chicken broth and vinegar.
Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or until the pork is very tender.
Remove pork and shred using two forks.
Return shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix with barbecue sauce.
Cook for an additional 20–30 minutes to absorb flavors.
Serve hot as desired.
