For the Cabbage
- 1 large head green cabbage, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
- ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth
For the Creamy Sauce
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
For Garnishing
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- Extra Parmesan, optional
- A pinch of Cajun seasoning, optional
Prepare the Cabbage
Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Cut the cabbage into quarters, remove the hard core, and chop it into bite-sized pieces.Rinse and drain thoroughly.
Sauté the Aromatics
Heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the butter and olive oil.Add the diced onion and cook for approximately 4–5 minutes, until softened.Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Add the Seasonings
Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt.Stir for about 30 seconds to release the aromas of the spices.
Cook the Cabbage
Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Toss well so the cabbage becomes coated with the seasoned butter and aromatics.Pour in the broth and cover the skillet.Cook for approximately 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage becomes tender.
Make the Creamy Sauce
Reduce the heat to medium-low.Pour in the heavy cream and add the cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.Stir gently until the cream cheese melts into the sauce.
Add Parmesan
Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan and stir until melted and incorporated.Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 3–5 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the cabbage.Avoid boiling vigorously, as high heat can cause the cream sauce to separate.
Taste and Adjust
Taste the cabbage and adjust the salt, Cajun seasoning, or black pepper as desired. For extra heat, add another pinch of red pepper flakes.
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan if desired.Serve immediately while hot and creamy.
