Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1/2 cups heavy cream (optional for extra creaminess)
  • 1/2 cups chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings (optional toppings)

Instructions
 

  • Heat the milk and cream: In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk and heavy cream (if using) until steaming but not boiling.
  • Melt the chocolate: Add the chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, and sugar. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Enhance the flavor: Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  • Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
