- 2 calamari steaks (about 6-8 oz each)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for crispy coating)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Prepare the Steaks: Rinse the calamari steaks under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Coat the Steaks (Optional): Dredge the steaks in a mixture of flour and breadcrumbs for a crispy finish. Heat the Pan: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Cook the Steaks: Add the calamari steaks to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcooking, as this can make the steaks rubbery. Add Lemon Juice: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the steaks while still in the pan. Remove from heat. Serve: Transfer to a plate, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve immediately.
