Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Cupcakes

For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add egg, buttermilk, warm water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.Bake for 16–18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.Add vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream. Beat until light, fluffy, and smooth
  • Pipe or spread frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Garnish as desired and serve.
