Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup hot milk or hot water
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar or brown sugar
  • ½ cup oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Place chopped dates in a bowl and pour hot milk or hot water over them. Let them soak for about 10 minutes until soft.
  • Mash the softened dates lightly to create a thick mixture.
  • Add sugar, oil or melted butter, and vanilla extract to the date mixture. Mix well until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms.
  • Fold in chopped walnuts or almonds if using.
  • Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 30–35 minutes.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
