- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 ½ cups water or beef broth
Brown the meat: In a large pot, cook ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain fat.
Sauté vegetables: Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes until soft.
Season: Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well to coat the meat.
Add liquids: Pour in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Stir to combine.
Simmer: Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat. Simmer uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Add beans: Stir in kidney and pinto beans. Simmer an additional 15–20 minutes to blend flavors.
Serve: Garnish with shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped onions. Serve hot.
