Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork (or a mix of pork and beef)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp dried sage
  • 1/2 tbsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ingredients:
Chop the onion and garlic finely. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Meat:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent. Add the ground pork and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Season the Mixture:
Stir in thyme, sage, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Combine Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture with breadcrumbs, broth, and the beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
  • Bake the Stuffing:
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  • Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm as a side dish or stuffing

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using a mix of pork and veal or adding chopped celery and carrots.
  • The stuffing can be prepared a day in advance and reheated before serving.
