  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the French Onion Sauce

  • 3 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For Topping

  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently until just combined.
  • Shape mixture into approximately 18–20 meatballs.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter with olive oil.
  • Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until deeply caramelized.
  • Stir in broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes until fully cooked.
  • Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over the top.
  • Place under a broiler for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with parsley and serve.
