Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)
  • Powdered sugar or maple syrup for serving

Instructions
 

  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Add cubed bread to the dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg in a bowl.
  • Pour the mixture evenly over the bread.
  • Press down gently so the bread absorbs the custard.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 6–8 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until golden and set.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.
  • Top with syrup, fruit or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Brioche or challah gives the best texture.
  • You can reduce sugar for a lighter version.
  • Add berries or nuts for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm for optimal texture.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven.
