- 2 lbs (900g) russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese

- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
