Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (optional, for sweet recipes)
  • Optional: food coloring, fillings (red bean paste, sesame paste, or fruit)

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine glutinous rice flour and sugar (if using).
  • Gradually add water, stirring until a smooth dough forms. The dough should be pliable but not sticky.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions and shape as desired (e.g., balls, discs).
  • If making filled treats, flatten each portion, add the filling, and seal the edges.
  • Boil water in a pot. Drop the shaped dough into boiling water and cook until they float to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove and drain. Serve warm or chilled, depending on the dish.

Notes

  • Glutinous rice flour is different from regular rice flour and cannot be substituted.
  • Adjust the water gradually to avoid overly sticky dough.
