Ingredients
  

  • 6 slices thick bread (preferably day-old)
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any plant milk)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegan butter (for cooking)

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, whisk together plant milk, flour (or cornstarch), maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add coconut oil or vegan butter.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the batter, coating both sides evenly.
  • Let excess batter drip off.
  • Place bread onto the hot skillet.
  • Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  • Repeat with remaining slices.
  • Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for better absorption.
  • Thick-cut bread works best.
  • Whisk batter well to avoid lumps.
  • Cook on medium heat to prevent burning.
  • Do not soak bread too long if it’s very soft.
  • Adjust sweetness to preference.
