Ingredients
  

For the Filling:

  • 3 cups ground cherries (husked and rinsed)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold butter (cubed)
  • 5–6 tablespoons ice water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  • In a bowl, mix ground cherries, sugar, flour, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  • Prepare pie dough by mixing flour and salt, then cutting in butter until crumbly.
  • Add ice water gradually to form a dough.
  • Divide dough into two portions and roll out one for the bottom crust.
  • Place crust in pie dish and add the filling.
  • Dot the filling with butter.
  • Roll out the second dough portion and place over the filling.
  • Seal edges, cut slits for steam, and crimp edges.
  • Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool before slicing to allow filling to set.

  • Remove husks completely before using cherries.
  • Adjust sugar based on fruit sweetness.
  • Let pie cool fully for best slicing.
  • Use a glass dish to monitor crust browning.
