For the Filling:
- 3 cups ground cherries (husked and rinsed)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter
For the Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cold butter (cubed)
- 5–6 tablespoons ice water
Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
In a bowl, mix ground cherries, sugar, flour, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
Prepare pie dough by mixing flour and salt, then cutting in butter until crumbly.
Add ice water gradually to form a dough.
Divide dough into two portions and roll out one for the bottom crust.
Place crust in pie dish and add the filling.
Dot the filling with butter.
Roll out the second dough portion and place over the filling.
Seal edges, cut slits for steam, and crimp edges.
Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown.
Cool before slicing to allow filling to set.
