For the Rolls:
- 1 large cabbage (leaves separated)
- 1 cup rice (uncooked)
- 300 g ground beef or pork
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 carrot (grated)
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried dill or parsley
For the Sauce:
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- ½ cup broth or water
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
Prepare cabbage: Boil cabbage until leaves soften and are easy to separate.
Cook rice: Partially cook rice and drain.
Make filling: Sauté onion, garlic, and carrot in oil until soft.
Combine: Mix sautéed vegetables with rice, meat, spices, salt, and pepper.
Roll: Place filling on cabbage leaves and roll tightly, folding sides inward.
Prepare sauce: Mix tomato sauce, paste, broth, sugar, and salt.
Cook: Arrange rolls in a pot, pour sauce over, cover, and simmer for 60–75 minutes.
Serve: Let rest slightly before serving.
