- 2 cups cooked ham, diced
- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup milk or cream
- Salt, to taste
Heat butter or olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add onion and celery; sauté until softened.
Stir in garlic and thyme; cook until fragrant.
Add diced ham and cook for 2–3 minutes.
Add sweet potatoes and chicken broth.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes until sweet potatoes are tender.
Stir in milk or cream and season with salt and pepper.
Simmer for 5 more minutes and serve hot.
