Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk (lukewarm)
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup warm water (to activate yeast)

Instructions
 

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water and let it foam (5–10 minutes).
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and milk.
  • Add yeast mixture and stir well.
  • Cover loosely (do not seal) and leave at room temperature.
  • Stir the mixture once daily.
  • Stir the starter.
  • Divide into portions (usually 3–4 cups total).
  • Use one portion for baking.
  • Share remaining portions with friends along with instructions.

Notes

  • Always use a non-metal bowl (glass or plastic preferred).
  • Do not refrigerate during the 10-day process.
  • Keep loosely covered to allow airflow.
  • Stir with a wooden or plastic spoon.
  • Starter will bubble and develop a mild sour smell.
  • Avoid over-sealing to prevent pressure buildup.
  • Temperature affects fermentation speed.
  • Discard if mold appears or smell becomes unpleasant.
