- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk (lukewarm)
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup warm water (to activate yeast)
Dissolve yeast in warm water and let it foam (5–10 minutes).
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and milk.
Add yeast mixture and stir well.
Cover loosely (do not seal) and leave at room temperature.
Stir the mixture once daily.
Stir the starter.
Divide into portions (usually 3–4 cups total).
Use one portion for baking.
Share remaining portions with friends along with instructions.
- Always use a non-metal bowl (glass or plastic preferred).
- Do not refrigerate during the 10-day process.
- Keep loosely covered to allow airflow.
- Stir with a wooden or plastic spoon.
- Starter will bubble and develop a mild sour smell.
- Avoid over-sealing to prevent pressure buildup.
