  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional topping)

Instructions
 

  • Boil Pasta: Cook macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Make Sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to create a smooth roux.
  • Add Milk: Slowly whisk in milk. Cook until thick and creamy.
  • Add Cheese: Stir in 2½ cups of cheese with salt and pepper until melted.
  • Combine: Mix sauce with pasta until evenly coated.
  • Bake: Transfer to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese and breadcrumbs.
  • Finish: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
