Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (cold)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  • Roll the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crisp edges.
  • Brush the tops with melted butter.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, ensure your butter and buttermilk are very cold. You can also freeze the dough for 10 minutes before baking.
