  • 1½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • ½ cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

For the Hot Cheetos Coating

  • 2½ cups Hot Cheetos, crushed
  • ½ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

For Serving

  • Crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Tortilla chips
  • Celery sticks
  • Cucumber slices
  • Toasted baguette slices

Instructions

Soften the Cream Cheese

  • Remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator and let it soften at room temperature for approximately 20–30 minutes.
Softened cream cheese will blend much more easily and create a smoother cheese ball.

Shred the Cheese

  • Freshly shred the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
Freshly shredded cheese generally blends more smoothly into the cream cheese mixture than pre-shredded cheese

Prepare the Hot Cheetos

  • Place the Hot Cheetos into a large resealable bag.
Crush them using a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy glass.
Create mostly fine crumbs with a few slightly larger pieces for additional crunch.

Make the Cheese Mixture

  • Add the softened cream cheese to a large mixing bowl.
Add the sour cream and mayonnaise.
    Beat until smooth and creamy.

Add the Shredded Cheese

  • Fold the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese into the cream cheese mixture.
    Stir until evenly distributed.

Add the Seasonings

  • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and optional cayenne pepper.
    Mix thoroughly.
Taste the mixture before adding salt because the cheese and Hot Cheetos coating are already quite salty.

Add the Fresh Ingredients

  • Fold in the sliced green onions and chopped fresh parsley.
Mix until everything is evenly incorporated.

Chill the Cheese Mixture

  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for approximately 30 minutes.
Chilling makes the mixture firmer and easier to shape.

Shape the Cheese Ball

  • Remove the chilled cheese mixture from the refrigerator.
Place it onto a large sheet of plastic wrap.
Gather the mixture together and shape it into a round ball using the plastic wrap to help form a smooth surface.

Chill Again

  • Wrap the cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
For the best texture, you can chill it for several hours or overnight

Add Extra Topping

  • If desired, sprinkle additional crushed Hot Cheetos over any areas that need more coverage.
A generous coating creates the most attractive presentation and delivers maximum crunch.

Transfer to a Serving Plate

  • Place the coated cheese ball in the center of a serving platter.
Arrange crackers, pretzels, tortilla chips, and fresh vegetables around it.

Garnish and Serve

  • Garnish with fresh parsley, sliced green onions, extra crushed Hot Cheetos, or a few whole Hot Cheetos for presentation.
Allow the cheese ball to sit at room temperature for approximately 10–15 minutes before serving so it becomes easier to spread.
Serve with your favorite dipping foods.

Notes

  • Cream cheese: Full-fat cream cheese provides the richest flavor and firmest texture.
  • Cheese: Sharp cheddar gives the cheese ball a stronger savory flavor.
  • Hot Cheetos: Crush them finely enough to coat the cheese ball but leave some larger pieces for texture.
  • Spice: Cayenne and hot sauce are optional if you want a milder appetizer.
  • Salt: Avoid adding too much salt because the cheese and Hot Cheetos already contain plenty.
  • Chilling: Proper chilling makes shaping and coating significantly easier.
  • Serving: Let the cheese ball soften slightly before serving for easier spreading.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container and consume within 3–4 days.
