- 8 hot dogs (beef or pork)
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp BBQ rub
- 4 tbsp butter (melted)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup BBQ sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
Preheat the Smoker: Set your smoker or grill to 225°F (107°C). Use hickory or applewood for the best smoky flavor.
Prepare the Hot Dogs: Cut each hot dog into 1.5-inch pieces. Toss them in yellow mustard to help the seasoning stick.
Season: Sprinkle BBQ rub evenly over the hot dog pieces.
Smoke: Place the hot dogs on the smoker and cook for 45 minutes until they develop a nice color and slight crispiness.
Caramelize: Transfer the smoked hot dogs to an aluminum pan. Add butter, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, and honey. Toss to coat.
Finish Cooking: Increase the smoker temperature to 275°F (135°C) and cook for another 15-20 minutes until caramelized and sticky.
Serve: Let them cool for a few minutes and enjoy your delicious Hot Dog Burnt Ends!
- You can use any type of hot dogs, but all-beef franks provide the best texture and flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar and honey.
- If you don’t have a smoker, you can use an oven at the same temperatures, though the smoky flavor will be reduced.
