Ingredients

For the Biscuit Dough

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk

For the Butter Base

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Filling

  • 1½ cups diced cooked ham
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese

For the Hot Honey

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Extra hot honey for drizzling

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, warm the honey over low heat. Stir in red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper. Remove from heat and allow the flavors to infuse.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add buttermilk and stir until a thick dough forms.
  • Fold in diced ham, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed.
  • Spread the dough evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish.
  • Using a knife, lightly score the dough into 9 squares to make cutting easier after baking.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with the prepared hot honey.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Full-fat buttermilk produces the softest biscuits.
  • Sharp cheddar provides the best flavor contrast.
  • Honey can be adjusted according to sweetness preference.
  • Freshly grated cheese melts more smoothly.
  • Leftover holiday ham works perfectly.
  • Allow biscuits to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Extra hot honey can be served on the side.
  • Use high-quality butter for richer flavor.
