Cuisine American
- 1 cup steel-cut oats
- 3 cups water (or 2 ½ cups water + ½ cup milk for extra creaminess)
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1–2 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
- 1 tbsp butter or coconut oil (optional, for richness)
Add ingredients: Pour steel-cut oats, water (or water + milk), salt, and cinnamon into the Instant Pot.
Pressure cook: Close lid, set valve to Sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 10 minutes.
Natural release: Let pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then carefully quick release any remaining pressure.
Stir & finish: Open lid, stir well. Add vanilla and sweetener if using.
Serve: Spoon into bowls and add your favorite toppings.
- Use steel-cut oats only—rolled or quick oats need different times and can overcook.
- For extra creamy oats, replace part of the water with milk, but avoid using all milk (it may scorch).
- Oats will look loose at first—they thicken as they cool for a few minutes.
- If you prefer a softer texture, add 1–2 minutes cook time. For chewier oats, reduce by 1 minute.
- A quick rinse of the pot helps, but the easiest cleanup is to spray with oil before cooking.
