Ingredients
  

  • 1 medium head red cabbage, shredded
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar or honey
  • 1/2 cup water or broth
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves or allspice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat butter in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add onions and apples, sauté until softened.
  • Stir in shredded cabbage and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Pour in vinegar, sugar, and water or broth.
  • Add cloves, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  • Cover and simmer for 50–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar.
