Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, sour cream, vanilla extract, and the beaten egg until well combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.

Chill the Dough:

  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to make it easier to handle.

Shape the Kringla:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin rope, about 8 inches long. Twist into a figure-eight or pretzel shape.

Bake:

  • Place the shaped Kringla onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Cool:

  • Allow the Kringla to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cardamom to the dough.
  • Kringla pairs beautifully with coffee or tea.
