Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups milk
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Cook the Pasta:
    Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Make the Roux:
    Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour to create a smooth paste.
  • Add the Milk:
    Gradually whisk in milk to avoid lumps. Stir constantly until the mixture thickens.
  • Add the Cheese:
    Reduce heat. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth.
  • Combine Pasta and Sauce:
    Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until each piece is coated.
  • Optional Baking Step:
    Transfer to a baking dish. Top with extra cheese or breadcrumbs. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes for a golden crust.
