Ingredients

  • 1 ½ sleeves saltine crackers (about 45–50 crackers), crushed
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick), melted
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth (more if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a medium baking dish with butter.
  • Sauté Vegetables: In a skillet, melt butter and cook onions and celery until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  • Mix Crackers: In a large bowl, combine crushed crackers with sautéed vegetables.
  • Add Seasoning: Stir in poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Combine Eggs and Broth: In a separate bowl, whisk eggs with broth, then pour over the cracker mixture. Stir until evenly moistened. Add more broth if mixture seems dry.
  • Bake: Pour into prepared dish and bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown on top and set in the center.
  • Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving warm alongside roast turkey or chicken.

Notes

  • Saltines create a delicate, flaky texture that’s lighter than bread dressing.
  • Adjust broth amount depending on how moist you prefer your dressing.
  • Add cooked sausage, mushrooms, or boiled eggs for extra flavor.
  • Use turkey drippings instead of broth for deeper taste.
  • Leftovers reheat beautifully in the oven or microwave.
