- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- 2 tsp water
- 2 tsp honey (or corn syrup, for glaze)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Cut the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal rectangles. Fill the Pastries: Place a dollop of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each rectangle. Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges tightly. Brush with Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together. Brush the egg wash over each pastry to ensure a golden finish. Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Glaze the Pastries: While the pastries are still warm, brush them with honey or corn syrup to create a shiny glaze. Cool and Serve: Allow the quesitos to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
-
For a tropical twist, add a spoonful of guava paste or pineapple jam to the cream cheese filling.
-
Ensure the edges are sealed tightly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
