Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp melted butter
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and milk until well blended. Gradually add the melted butter.
  • Create the Batter:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. The batter should be thick but pourable.
  • Cook the Pancakes:
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the skillet, forming small rounds. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Serve:
Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey.

Notes

  • For authenticity, serve the pancakes with clotted cream and preserves.
  • The batter can be made a few hours ahead and refrigerated.
