- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tbsp homemade blend
- ½ cup salsa or tomato sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 10–12 small corn or flour tortillas
- Cooking oil (for frying or brushing if baking)
- Optional: sour cream, guacamole, salsa for dipping
Cook the beef:In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic for 2 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
Season & add salsa:Stir in taco seasoning and salsa. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and mix in the shredded cheese.
Assemble the taquitos:Warm the tortillas slightly (in a pan or microwave) to make them pliable. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto each tortilla, roll tightly, and secure with a toothpick if needed.
Cook the taquitos:To fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry taquitos seam-side down until golden brown (2–3 minutes per side).To bake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C), place taquitos on a lined baking sheet, brush with oil, and bake for 15–18 minutes until crispy.To air-fry: Spray taquitos with oil and air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 10–12 minutes. Serve:Let cool slightly, then serve with dips and toppings of your choice.
