Ingredients
  

For the Cookies:

  • 2 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp red gel food coloring
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder

For the Decorations (Optional):

  • Royal icing or cream cheese glaze
  • Food coloring
  • Sprinkles

Instructions
 

Step 1: Make the Cookie Dough

  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.

Step 2: Chill the Dough

  • Divide the dough in half, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3: Roll & Cut Shapes

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut out shapes using cookie cutters.

Step 4: Bake

  • Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set.
  • Let cookies cool completely before decorating.

Step 5: Decorate (Optional)

  • Use royal icing, cream cheese glaze, or sprinkles to decorate your cookies.
  • Let the icing set before serving or storing.
