- 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices sharp cheddar or American cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- Lettuce leaves
- Pickles (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Heat oil or butter in a skillet and sauté onions until golden and caramelized; set aside.
Divide ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt and pepper.
Grill or pan-cook patties over medium-high heat until desired doneness.
Top each patty with cheese during the last minute to melt.
Toast burger buns lightly.
Spread sauce on buns, add lettuce and tomato, place patty on top, and finish with caramelized onions.
