- 1 1/2 lbs ground lamb (or beef for cottage pie)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared with butter and milk)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking dish.
Heat oil in a skillet, cook onion, carrots, and garlic until tender.
Add ground lamb, cook until browned. Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
Stir in peas, then spread mixture into the baking dish.
Top with mashed potatoes, smoothing evenly. Add cheese if desired.
Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest before serving.
